This month we’re introducing you to Carolyn Valentin, artist + mom. She uses bold and vibrant colors in her art and loves seeing her work bring a space to life. We’ve commissioned her for a few of our clients and wanted you to learn more about her path, her inspirations + her method.

How and when did you decide to pursue art as a career? I started painting just for myself as a creative outlet during Covid. We had more time at home, and my boys were old enough that they could play on their own. I was inspired by some art I saw at the local Serena & Lily store in Boston and thought, “I could paint something similar for my house.” I then kept painting these simple graphic square wood pieces and posted some on my personal Instagram. After starting an account solely for my art, my business was born. I have a graphic design background. and my work reflected that in the beginning.

What inspires you? I’m inspired first and foremost by color and pattern. Interior design has always been something I love. I follow many designers and am constantly thinking about fun ways to decorate my home. It just fills my cup. I know everyone says this, but travel is always hugely inspiring. When we lived in Austria pre-kids, I was inspired by the architecture, art and just general beauty everywhere. Nature and downtime are crucial – for creativity + sanity.

What is the best part of working as an artist? My favorite is seeing the art transform a space and making my collectors happy. I’ve derive so much satisfaction from executing an idea in my head. Painting is therapeutic (mostly!) and working with my hands to create something, especially in an age where we are on screens so much, brings me a lot of joy. I’ve also gotten to meet so many people and work with amazing designers and that part is so fun and rewarding.
