Online + In Person Shopping
At KKI we LOVE vintage, and we love incorporating secondhand finds with new furnishings + decor when working on design projects. The thrill of the hunt is kind of the best part, and several of you have asked us where we go to find vintage treasures. So, drumroll please, we’re breaking it down and giving you ALL the links you’ll need to score your own secondhand prizes.
The first place many of us go to find used items at a steal is Facebook Marketplace. It can be a frustrating experience though, dealing with miscommunication, scheduling an agreed upon meetup time, and getting upset when someone flakes out on you. We like to follow @DallasDesignFinds on Instagram. She is in Dallas, but she scours FBM for deals all over Texas – and she has great tips for getting the most out of your FBM experience. We have a few more online sources that we like. They all offer shipping, delivery or pick-up options, making purchases easy + convenient.
Live Auctioneers: If you enjoy the hunt and the thrill of bidding, then Live Auctioneers is the place for you! It can be a bit dangerous if you’re the competitive sort, but you can find some seriously great deals. First off, you can search for individual items – or for auctions in your area. There are a few auction houses in Houston (Gallery Auctions being our favorite) and Vogt Auction House in San Antonio. They got a lot of my money during the pandemic – ha! Most auction houses offer shipping as well, so you don’t have to stick to your area. You’ll also have time to set a budget, take measurements + think about the item(s) before the auction goes live. If you get the app on your phone, you can bid while sipping wine on your patio!
Lily’s Vintage Finds: As she says on her Instagram profile, Lily Barfield sources vintage treasures from Southern flea markets to the South of France (and everything in between). She offers free pickup in Houston, and shipping nationwide. This is the link to her website where you can check out what she has available. She ‘drops’ new items each week, so please follow her on Instagram @lilysvintagefinds to see when they’re scheduled. Things tend to sell FAST.
Moore Vintage Co.: This couple offers vintage and mid-century furnishings + home decor with paid local delivery to Houston and the surrounding area (up to 150 miles). Lots of great cane + rattan furniture ~ perfect for that coastal vibe! Follow them on Instagram as well @moorevintageco for good sales and new items.
LoHo Vintage: You met Lori + LoHo a few months ago in our “Inside the Workroom’ newsletter feature. She sells her hip, timeless home decor finds on Instagram + at pop-ups around town. Lori has the best style and is our go-to for unique, one-of-a-kind treasures.
Etsy + Ebay are also great places to score vintage decor and even furniture. There are hundreds (probably thousands) of estate sale addicts + thrifters selling their finds on Instagram. Just search ‘vintage’ and shop to your heart’s content.
Now that we’ve covered several places to shop online for secondhand gems, let’s get to some brick + mortar locations here in Houston and the surrounding areas. Happy hunting!
Designer’s Furniture Exchange at 5701 Richmond Ave ~ Houston: Fine furniture consignment store specializing in preowned name brand furniture, along with paintings, chandeliers, mirrors + lamps.
The Guild Shop at 2009 Dunlavy ~ Houston : Consistently voted the best thrift store in town, this place has everything. Go early, then get lunch at Guadalupana across the street!
AG Antiques at 313 W. 19th ~ Houston: You can wander the aisles for hours as there are treasures filling every nook + cranny. Even if you’re not looking for something specific, you’re bound to find something you simply must have.
KT Antiques at 5614 2nd St ~ Katy: Old town Katy has a few lovely antique stores, but this one is the best. Several vendors keep the space stocked with furnishings + decor. After shopping, head down the street to Texas Tradition for the fried catfish!
Red Queen’s Attic at 900 3rd St ~ Rosenberg: Here’s another fun day trip for you. This 16,000 sf store offers antiques, furniture, home goods, garden plants + outdoor decor. Later, grab some tacos at Bob’s Taco Station. As you’ve probably noticed, sustenance is a big part of our secondhand shopping experience!
