This month we’re excited to introduce you to Marie Dang of Houston Upholstery on Richmond Avenue in Montrose. She runs our go-to workroom for beautiful custom furniture and reupholstery.

Marie became a part of her family’s business after graduating from the University of Houston. Her mom and dad started their retail furniture store and then got heavily into reupholstery after fifteen years of making + selling furniture. Marie has grown Houston Upholstery to what it is today, selling retail and to the trade, with a more designer look.

What inspires you? Clients & beautiful fabrics! Fabrics are like candy to me, and I LOVE them all! Clients trusting our company + workmanship and loving what goes into their homes is so satisfying ~ especially when I know I’m a part of the selection process for the perfect chair or fabric. Some of my favorite fabric lines are Schumacher, Scalamandre, Kravet & Fabricut (ours too, Marie!)

What are your favorite items to create? I love making chairs & reupholstery items. For chairs you can pick fun fabrics and go a little out of the box. Pillows as well!

And what is your most favorite project of all time? So many favorite projects! One of my favorite fun projects was working with Blooming Gallery and making wedding banquettes & benches. They are so stunning! This is out of the box for us, since it’s for an event company. We especially enjoy commercial projects.
